Bart Cuypers is a bioinformatics scientist who develops and applies (multi-) ‘omic approaches to unravel the molecular biology of pathogens and human diseases.
A major part of his work focuses on the parasite Leishmania donovani, which is responsible for the disease visceral leishmaniasis. Each year, over 5 million people contract this disease, which is lethal without treatment. His research focuses on unraveling developmental and drug-resistance mechanisms of the parasite by integrating genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data over a wide array of treatments and life stages.
